Legal Action

If payment is not received from a consumer who is capable of payment, or if the consumer refuses to cooperate, the account is given to the collection supervisor with recommendation for follow-up.  The collection supervisor reviews the account for possible legal action by checking the account to assure that the criteria for legal action have been met and that all other avenues of collecting the debt have been exhausted.  The supervisor will either approve or deny the request for legal action.

The length of time TAB allows before recommending legal action varies from account to account, depending on the circumstances. TAB collectors are trained to exhaust all other collection methods before requesting legal action.
